Serving: 2-4 | Prep Time: 20 min | Cook Time: 10 min | Total Time: 30 min

Enjoy mouthwatering Carne Asada Tacos cooked over an open fire on your next camping adventure. With simple ingredients and minimal preparation, these tacos are perfect for overlanding and campsite meals. Cook them using grill grates or a cast-iron skillet placed directly on the flames for a smoky, delicious experience.

For those who crave some heat, consider adding minced jalapeños or serrano peppers to the marinade. Customize your tacos with additional toppings like chopped onions, avocado slices, or a dollop of sour cream to suit your taste. For an extra touch of flavor, try preparing your own homemade salsa to complement this satisfying dish beautifully.

DIRECTIONS

INGREDIENTS

  1.  Combine the flank steak, lime juice, orange juice, Mexican oregano, cumin, and salt in a large ziplock bag.

  2. Allow the steak to rest in the mixture for an hour.

  3. Prepare the campfire for direct cooking or heat a cast iron skillet directly on the fire coals.

  4. Remove the flank steak from the marinade, shaking off any excess liquid. Place the steak on the cooking grate directly over the fire or cast iron surface. Cook for 4-5 minutes per side or until the steak reaches the desired level of doneness.

  5. While the steak is cooking, warm the flour tortillas over the fire or on the grill grates for about 30 seconds per side or until slightly charred.

  6. Once the steak is cooked, remove it from the fire or grill and let it rest for 3-5 minutes. Slice the steak against the grain into thin strips.

  7. Assemble the tacos by placing a few slices of carne asada on each tortilla and top with a generous amount of chopped cilantro.

  8. Serve the tacos immediately and enjoy your delicious open-fire carne asada tacos.
