Escape the Daily Grind
If Iām going to travel, I wanna have an experience. Last weekend I had the opportunity to do just that. I took advantage of the three-day weekend to take a trip up to the Blue Ridge Mountains, and have a getaway in a cabin. It was one of those trips I needed to take to preserve my sanity.
I'm no stranger to the mountains of Georgia, and I'm always down for a good road trip. So it was hard to pass up an opportunity to participate in some glamping.
If you're not familiar with the term, glamping is a fancy way of saying "glamorous camping." It's the perfect balance of roughing it in nature while still having access to modern comforts like a stove, cookware, a bathroom, and a comfortable bed.
The destination was a tiny home cabin on a property owned by the Getaway organization. The property was surrounded by woods and isolated from any cities or towns, making it the perfect escape from society. I packed extra supplies, including new cooking equipment from Barebones, a company that specializes in nature-centered cooking equipment. I had never cooked over an open fire before, but luckily for me, I have a friend who is a pro at making fires. The time I have spent hanging and filming with him allowed some of his skills to rub off on me. I used the skills to make a fabulous steak dinner.
While I was there, I also took advantage of the setting to do some nature photography. The area was perfect for Astro shots and lunar and wildlife photography. Although I didn't see much wildlife, the opportunity to capture the beauty of nature was not wasted.
One of the best things about the trip was how equipped the cabin was with modern comforts like a stove, cookware, a bathroom, a bed, and a shower. It made the trip much more comfortable and enjoyable.
But my favorite part of the trip was how deeply nestled in the mountains the location was. Even though it was only about two hours away from my house, it felt like a completely different world.
In conclusion, I had a great time on my mini-vacation and found that these little trips are a great way to refresh my mind. If you're considering a similar trip, I recommend planning out your activities in advance and bringing everything you need, since the location was isolated and far from any towns. But, trust me, it's worth it for the experience.
